Going into 2024 we are going to test running weekly meetings at Eckington. The usual Monday nights that fall in the same week as Killamarsh meetings will stay the same. For the new additional meetings we will be testing a new GP format.
You can check the format dates by visiting our race calendar here: https://www.sheffieldrcracing.co.uk/index.php/events
What's a GP Meeting?
A GP meeting is a more relaxed club meeting to hopefully suit racers wanting to both test and race. The format requires racers to share a 29min session to set a qualifying time. They can use this time to test setups or focus on finding their best 3 consecutive lap qualifying time. After the 2 long sessions, finals will be created and run at 9PM.
There will be two qualifying groups based on abilities. We allow only 5 racers on track at a time, there will be 5 numbered timers on race control to monitor. Each racer is allowed 5 mins on track before allowing another racer to replace them. Racers waiting to join, call off any timers that have gone over 5 mins.
The track will always stay the same for GP meetings. It will be something easy to set up and least likely to cause track skipping.
Final positions are decided by a racers best 3 consecutive laps (like big race seeding).
Marshalling will be sorted within the two qualifying groups. At least two marshals will need to be track side. With the 3 consecutive lap qualifying there should be less pressure on marshalling.
